Companies House filing

File your company accounts online for £19 + VAT

Annual accounts for micro-entity and dormant companies, filed straight to Companies House. Use the accounts HMRC already accepted with your CT600, or enter your figures — AccLedger builds the iXBRL and files it.

1. Bring your figures

Use the accounts from the CT600 you filed in AccLedger, or type your profit and loss account and balance sheet. The balance sheet is checked before you can go on.

2. Check the accounts

Preview the exact iXBRL document Companies House will receive — filleted or full — with the director’s approval and the statements the law requires.

3. Pay and file

One payment of £19 + VAT, then submit. Track the filing until Companies House accepts it, and keep a copy of what was filed.

The same accounts at HMRC and Companies House

Your CT600 and your Companies House filing must tell the same story. Retyping figures into a second product is how they drift apart.

  • File from the accounts HMRC accepted with your CT600 — no re-entry
  • Every balance sheet figure is compared with the HMRC filing before anything is sent
  • A difference stops the filing and shows exactly which figures disagree
  • Filed your CT600 elsewhere? Enter the figures and file the accounts on their own

Filleted accounts keep your profit private

Whatever you file at Companies House is published on the public register. Micro-entities are allowed to leave the profit and loss account out.

  • Filleted accounts by default: balance sheet and notes only (Companies Act 2006, s444)
  • Full accounts available if you prefer to publish them
  • Micro-entity accounts under FRS 105, tagged in iXBRL to the current FRC taxonomy
  • Dormant company accounts, including companies that have never traded

A record of what you filed

Companies House examines accounts after they arrive. You can see where yours are, and prove what was sent.

  • Status from Companies House — pending, accepted or rejected, with reasons
  • The exact accounts document that was filed, downloadable at any time
  • Corrected or amended accounts for the same period at no extra charge
  • Filing history kept in your account, year after year

Frequently asked questions

Which companies can file accounts with AccLedger?
Private limited companies that qualify as micro-entities, including dormant companies. A company is a micro-entity if it meets at least two of these: turnover of £1 million or less, a balance sheet total of £500,000 or less, and 10 or fewer employees on average. The accounts are prepared under FRS 105. Companies that need small-company (FRS 102 Section 1A), audited or group accounts should use an accountant for now.
I filed my CT600 with AccLedger. Do I have to enter everything again?
No. Choose “From HMRC submission” and AccLedger uses the accounts HMRC accepted with your CT600. Before anything is sent, AccLedger checks that the balance sheet going to Companies House matches the one HMRC holds, figure by figure — so the two filings always agree.
I filed my CT600 somewhere else. Can I still file my accounts here?
Yes. Choose “Enter figures” and type your profit and loss account and balance sheet from your accounts, with last year’s figures alongside. AccLedger checks the balance sheet balances and builds the iXBRL accounts from what you entered. Make sure the figures match the accounts sent to HMRC with your CT600.
What are filleted accounts?
Micro and small companies may leave the profit and loss account and directors’ report out of the copy they file at Companies House (Companies Act 2006, section 444). Filleted accounts keep your turnover and profit off the public register while still meeting the filing requirement. AccLedger files filleted accounts by default; you can choose full accounts instead. HMRC always receives full accounts with the CT600.
Can I file dormant company accounts?
Yes. Tick that the company was dormant throughout the period and say whether it has ever traded. AccLedger produces dormant micro-entity accounts with the right statements and files them for the same £19 + VAT.
What do I need before I start?
Your company registration number, the six-character company authentication code Companies House posted to your registered office, your figures for the period (and the prior period, unless these are your first accounts), the director approving the accounts and the date they were approved.
What is included in the £19?
Everything for one company and one accounting period: the iXBRL accounts, the filing to Companies House, status checks until Companies House accepts or rejects it, and a copy of exactly what was filed. If Companies House rejects the accounts, or you need to file amended accounts for the same period later, there is no extra charge. Subscribers to an AccLedger limited company plan file at no extra cost.
When are my accounts due at Companies House?
Nine months after the end of your accounting period for a private company. A company’s first accounts are due 21 months after the date of incorporation, or three months after the end of the first accounting reference period if that is later. Your Corporation Tax return is a separate filing with its own deadline.
What happens if I file late?
Companies House charges an automatic late filing penalty: £150 if the accounts are up to one month late, £375 up to three months, £750 up to six months and £1,500 after that. The penalty doubles if the accounts are late two years in a row.
How long does Companies House take to accept the accounts?
Companies House checks the filing as it arrives and then examines it, which can take anything from a few hours to a few days. AccLedger shows the status as pending until Companies House accepts or rejects it, along with any reasons for a rejection.
